InspirationBased on the legend of the creation of the White Crane form of Chinese boxing. These arts are real. I know because I've studied them for 15 years. –– difference between external and internal –– what I've tried to show is the internal side, where the origins of fantastic feats of Chinese folklore are to be found. Some may be real, some may not have been. But what is sure – what I have seen with my own eyes and felt with my own body – is that these arts can produce things beyond the 'normal' understanding of what is possible. In fact, it is my opinion that ANYTHING is possible. White Crane boxing is commonly thought of (ironically if you have read the comic!) as a 'hybrid' art. That is, a balance between the external and the internal... and you know the Chinese love a bit of balance. But don't worry, this comic doesn't preach on at you about Chinese philosophy. You're now ready to turn the page for a kick-ass, revenge-fuelled, monster-killing kung fu-a-thon. (That's a lot of hyphens for one sentence!) So, sit back, do some chi gung, crack a beer or roll a fatty, whatever gets you in the mood to learn kung fu's most important lesson. As Hung the hero is about to say: it's time to reeellllaaaax. Our intent was to create a modern, accessible, fast-paced and cinematic blend of Eastern myth and Western storytelling. Originally planned as a six-issue mini-series, the project has been picked up by Markosia Enterprises (www.markosia.com) who wish to publish the story in graphic novel format. An 'internal' martial art comic – a plethora of Japanese martail arts with the Samurai and ninja culture explored to death, as well as the world famous shaolin arts that have become so prevelant I wanted to pay homage to what many consider to be the root of 'real' martial arts, namely the rae family of 'internal Chiinese arts based on the movement and control of qi. These arts are real and fall mainly into three main disciplines, the most famous of which is Tai Chi Chuan, which translates as grand ultimate fist (or 'boxing'), the other less famous two are... All three feature as prominent styles in the comic and are considered to be the three main 'pure' internal arts... but there are others, one of which is often considered to be a (aptly) hybrid internal/external art that inspired this comic book. It was the romantic legend of the inception of the White Crane system of Chinese boxing that inspired this comic and played as the perfect backdrop to showcase these arts. Many of the characters are based on real people... The art of change... this comic is also about transformation... Spiritual transformation to 5D symbolised by the spiritual pioneers such as Fang Chi Something about their names as well and why I chose them... Martial arts comic for real martial artists... f All lessons contained within the first lesson so as Hung says on page 1: "Relax", sit back, and enjoy. |
