FANG CHI – from concept to page via three artists...
From the initial story concept came this first design by a wonderful illustrator by the name of Jo Fallon, who really nailed the innocence, youth, but strong willed spirit from the start.
To the earliest design by Adrian Rodriguez, essentially taking Jo's design and colour palette, and using his distinctive digital style...
...but also offering a different colour scheme that he felt would be stronger for the main character...
...eventually settling on even bolder tones and a different top design that he felt was "a little more aggressive". I totally agree.
And some wonderful facial expressions showing a range of emotions from the young warrior by Adrian.
And finally, the superb 'fully formed' White Crane, as Fang Chi will become, by Santiago Espina.
